Passed my Martin recurve to the neighbor kid
« on: August 22, 2011, 06:29:00 AM »
Well my neighbor has been coming over and shooting with us for a couple of months now. He is a great kid 16 and full of enthusiasim for the outdoors. He was shooting an old ben pearson bow that was marked 40# . He picked it up at a flea market , put a new string on it and started shooting. He has discovered that he likes shooting traditional, and would like to try hunting with trad equipment. We put the scale on his bow and it came in at 34#. He was pretty bummed because he was hoping it would be 40 so he could hunt with it.  A couple of weeks ago I let him start shooting my martin jaguar, #50@28 and he handled it very well.  I built a flemish string ,put some silencers, on the string, some moleskin on the limbs, and filled the quiver with some xx75 2016 arrows and handed it over to him last night. He was very happy to say the least. I hope he will stay a trad bowhunter forever.

Great job, my man.   I love giving things like this to kids who will appreciate them.    He'll remember you, your kindness and that gift for the rest of his life.

Wow, what a generous thing to do for that young man, and for the community.  More than one way to reach out and touch the world with a bow and arrow!

A nice gesture on your part. If the kid stays with trad bowhunting, he'll remember you for the rest of his life and he just may do the same thing for someone else when he reaches your age.
