I have a friend with hounds that I've gone out with several times.  He's been doing it as his hobby for quite some time now and has connections in Utah, Arizona, and here in Idaho.  Sounds like some of the other guys have given some good options-if you want any others, I can ask my buddy and send that info your way.  Good luck and happy hunting.

JimB, that's a good looking mount. Most taxis don't do cats very well.

Hap blackstone can help you out in northern NM. Also, you might want to look at options in west texas or southern NM - typically smaller cats than northern ones, but you could have the advantage of a call-up, shorter travel, and no additional license. ALot of the west texas hunts are depredation hunts, so once a kill is located you head west. About the only way to do it out there as the cats are more spread out.

Great pics!  A lion on our cams would be a little scary, but I guess it's not what I'm used to.

Here's a few stats to think about in choosing a state. First choose snow hunt or bare ground. Bare ground will narrow your search a lot with outfitters and and will be a little tougher hunt in some ways ( not always as winter is a tough time to hunt)

I have a few numbers from as late as 2008 on sport harvest.
Idaho leads with 441 lions, they hit a all time high in 1997 of 797. They are followed by Montana with over 300. CO.and UT are pretty close with 295 and 274.

The dry ground state of AZ. stands at close to 250.
WY. and NM. are just over 200 cats.
Nevada finishes the legal dog states with 146.

Or. has tags available for lions but no dogs allowed, 2007 harvest was 308

Most of the western states harvest numbers are going down. Most likely due to prey numbers being down. (deer)Also Idaho, MT, WY, are being impacted by wolves. Tough to run hounds with these duds in the area.

These figures are from a research book our dept. loaned me. The new bible on lion ecology & management.

Hope this helps. RS

Gotta Ask....why would anyone ask a question like that on a HUNTING SITE!!!!!

If anyone needs a lion killed, I'd LOVE to hunt one.....its on my list like I said earlier, I think that is one of the most ultimate trophy's of North America.....plus like stated earlier...I hear they are yummy.

A lion is the ultimate choice for a hunter in my opinion. They are the best eating wild game I've tasted by far.

I get to spend 3 or 4 month's every winter hunting the big cats. I consider myself a true student of these cats and have only scratched the surface of what they can teach. When one of the big cats look you in the eye you feel like it just looked into your soul.

Every traditional archer could do no worse than to learn how these cats hunt. They are the masters of spot & stalk hunting.

My buddy has killed 2 with his longbow and they are very good to eat.

Give me a PM if you want to chase the big cats. I take 5 or six hunters a year, World Record was taken in my area.
Thanks Doug
