Traits of a Great Bowhunting Friend

This may be a lame thread (I know I am....lame that is).

What makes your best hunting buddy so great?  I'll start:

--Bowhunting is about all he thinks about.
--He knows more than I do but doesn't rub it in
--We share a pretty close set of hunting ethics
--Is excited when I succeed
--Gets a huge kick out of the little things; odd wildlife sightings, scouting, hunting weather
--Pitches in with all the hunting "chores"

mine hangs my lock ons for me..hes like a monkey in a tree...and i can call him and say i need help with a trail job or dragging and he always shows up no matter whats going on

Around where i live , i am thought of as the best hunting buddy.If there are 12 other guys with me walking through the woods on the same path,,the snake will always wait on me to bite.I have been snake bit so many times they make jokes about me in the ER.One nurse told me that by now my bite would be much worse than any snake,lol.I get bit in the woods hunting,,,while at a lake or creek fishing,several times walking out to get something out of the car in the drive way after dark,and the last time was last spring while picking blackberries while squatting down in the middle of a big patch of berries,almost was on my butt this time.We have lots of snakes around here and i swear the word has got out where my house is.Snakes from 3 counties crawl just to get to my yard now.When any guys are planning a hunt, they always say,lets take matt just in case the snakes are out.

Shows up on time! Someone who means what they say, and says what they mean. I've had a bunch of hunting partners over the years and still can't find someone with those traits on a consistant basis. I respect others and feel they should too.

My Dads been the only hunting partner for me. There have been others around but nobody i know personally, wants to be in the woods anywhere near the amount of time I do. Most people only want to go when its conveniant. I dont fit in well with most people so mainly stick to myself. My wife just says im weird lol.

Would not wish my hunting partners to act and feel as I have. I am always compelled to give up and offer up a hot spot. However, I wouldn't want them to stick me in a hole either. The times that I knew of a current hot spot and kept it totally to myself, my hunt was not enjoyable since I ended up torturing myself. Seems as if the only way I can escape it is to hunt on my own.

An instrumental facilitor to being a close hunting buddy is for you yourself to be one 1st. One great hunting buddy that I hunted with for 15 years, until his illness, comes to mind. I didn't have a phone nor a TV - by my choice and we would make a committment such as meeting at a specified location, specified time a date which may be 3 weeks away. He never once failed to show and once he managed to show and he was too sick to hunt so he slept against a log in the field. He never mentioned he was ill until I came out of the woods and found him asleep. That true example is taking it to the extreme but dependability is paramount.

A close hunting partner is my brother.

My bowhunting buddy goes out of his way to help those that need it whether it with recovering an animal or just providing a boat for bowfishing.

When you call up a buddy and say..

Me: "I got good news and bad news."
Me: "Good news is I got a deer down. About 180 lb dressed."
Them: "Cool! Whats that bad news?"
Me: It's about 3/4 of a mile to the nearest access road. Wanna help?"

A true bowhunting friend goes even if he (or she) didnt draw a tag. This year I am the only one that drew an elk tag in our area and yet all my friends are going to help call or pack something out.

Rosco1, that's a great example!  I have a friend who didn't draw a moose tag in Wyoming yet he is taking off two weeks and helping me hunt. That is a good hunting buddy!!!!

Indianbowman - And I'm sure you'd do the same for your friend as I would do the same for mine. It's good to have those kinds of friends whether it be hunting or day to day life.

So you hunt with my buddy Clay too ????? He is the best but I'm sure I dont tell him enough.
