String Flipped

Gotta buddy with a Ben Pearson Rouge Recurve. We took it to the bow shop and got a Dacron string made up for it. After shooting it for about 3 weeks he called me this evening all ticked off about his bow. He said he shot it twice and on the third shot the string at the upper limb flipped around the bow and off the groove. Any ideas what might cause this. I was thinking maybe a twisted limb but i`m not sure. We checked the bow out at the bow shop and it looked pretty straight but who knows.

Most likely a twisted limb. If not twisted, very weak for some reason or other, possibly damaged. String the bow and draw it and let the string down gently until it's at brace height. The string should settle in the center of the string groove. If it doesn't the limb is twisted. If the brace height is way low, say a couple of inches, it could unstring itself at the shot.

Also you might want to check the sides of the string grooves to make sure both sides are on the same angle when they were filed in...One side could be filed in a little deeper then the other side or could also be a string loop that is too fat making it roll off the limb tips...When I make my strings I try to make them so they will seat well into the grooves and not fatter so to speak to chance it from rolling over the groove...Hope that makes sense..

If your buddy is new to traditional archery, it is possible that he did not check to make sure the string was seated in the string grooves properly when he strung it up. May have taken a couple shots for it to come loose. Just an idea.
