I'm sure you can get some quirky shafts.

I have had a couple dozen but never spined tested them, as I've heard occassionally they can be way off.

I've bought 4 dozen blems from Big Jim in the last couple of years, I've never had a problem with the ones I received.

The "Blem" in suppose to be visual ONLY, they should still be within the .006 . Id check your spinner and/or how the inserts are installed. If you cant find the problem Id contact Goldtip or whoever you bought them from and see what they say.

I use goldtips and only goltips for trad and compound , along with my three boys that equals a few shafts per year, I have never shot blems, but many years ago the shop I buy from here in Oz told me that you always cut Gold Tips from the nock end, his theory was that is the way they apparently come off the mandrel and that is where the most variance occurs in straightness.

Anyway cutting from the back is what I have done for quite a few years now and will do for along time to come.

Cheers

The only thing that confuses me is a couple spin pretty straight.

Is there a way you can heat the insert and twist it and see if that helps. I always try 1 or 2  new field points. I spin them on my finger to feel if there any wobbles. If this not the cause then I do not know.
I haven`t done anything to these but unwrap `em from the package and put `em on the spinner

Accually, that`s exactly what I was thinking of doing. Cut about 1/4" from each end before tuning them.

I honestly think these blems are a good product at a good price. I might have gotten the exceptional bad batch and I might not have. As far as I can tell I really can`t see cosmetic flaws in these either. I know some carbon shafts can be defective from the process of making them at the factory. I`ll cut a bit from both ends and shoot `em.

You're not losing your mind...  I setup a dozen 35/55's recently and most of them had some runout from one or both ends.  Find a couple with runout on one end, glue your point in the straight side and start bare shafting.  I don't think you'll have any problems, mine shoot just fine!

Pardon my ignorance (it's temporary) but what is "run out"?

I just got mine today and just now spun them. One had a little "hanging chad" on one side of the point end -- inside it -- and it wobbled, but I cut that off with a box cutter and it spun fine.

They're not perfect, but they're well within my tolerances.

I do note that the straightness tolerances are right there on the label, but there aren't any promises about weight. I'm at work and don't have my scale with me.

When I think about imperfections in my carbon arrows, I always think, "Well, when I'm shooting wood I'd better get used to it."

I'm very happy with them. I notice there is another thread just like this on another trad forum. Hmmm.

I bought several dozen blems last winter. The weight per arrow varied between 22 to 32 grams within each dozen. This is more than a cosmetic issue. Great rabbit arrows however.

I just bought another dozen

Never had any issues. The first dozen I bought had no cosmetic issues, the second set was obviously blems, they all shot just fine for me.

Never had any issues with the blems. I also use a ASD to make sure ends are true and with the 50 or 100 grain brass inserts never had one not spin true.

Still straighter than you would likely get a wooden arrow.

I have never had a problem out of any of the blems that I have recieved.

Might want to check you spinner?
