Eye candy for Bear Razorhead lovers...
« on: August 30, 2011, 10:54:00 AM »
An unopened pack of Bear Razorheads, purchased by my cousin 45-50 years ago at our local Western Auto store. He passed them along to me a few years ago. Thanks, Alan!

Note the price of $7.95 a dozen, with the 6-pack marked $4.99, or $0.45 each. I bought my first hunting arrows at this store, POC tipped with Bear Razorheads. The broadhead-tipped arrows were around $2.50 each as near as I can recall.

On the back, Fred advises "Single blade heads should never be used for big game hunting!!!" I guess he was good at marketing, too!

I still shoot them.  I add a 100 grain steel adapter and "modify" the bleeders for fit.

...and Fred's statement that single blade heads should never be used for big game hunting is probably why I prefer 3-blade heads to this day!

2blade, Fred was a marketing genius too. He was competing with single blades, so he had to find a way to be superior: the inserts. After reading what he had said, it put a guilt trip on me because I was always losing the inserts. I killed my first archery deer with a Bear Razorhead, without the insert.

Thanks for sharing.  These are considered 4 blade or 2 blade with bleeder so ok with big game?  And he was taking a shot at the competitors then(single blades)?  Pretty good sales move.

Yup, I drank the 2-blade cool-aid too and shoot either three or four blade heads to this day.  The arguement was a 2 blade cuts a single slice that doesn't bleed as well as the hole a 3 or 4 blade broadhead opens up.  Don't know that I buy that arguement now, but well tapered three blade heads still just seem to make more sense.

Thanks so much for sharing.  I love those broadheads.  I especially like seeing them in the original packaging.

Just shot the broadheads I'll be hunting with this year. Guess what? Old Bear "Greenies" without inserts. I've just never liked the inserts. Never could get them to mount to my liking. Killed plenty of game without the little buggers. Thanks for sharing.

Don, it was nice to meet you Saturday at the hunting club meeting. October 1 is rapidly approaching:) That is a nice pack of broadheads, do you intend to bloody them up?

Phil, it was good meeting you, too. No way I'll bloody these heads, although it is tempting... I've finished the set I showed you, and they have Snuffers and MA3's on them.

I noticed you stopped off at the sand pit on the way out. I know that area well- hunted it for years.  :)

Switched Bears for heavier Ace. Still have the straight shooting Bears always w/o bleeders. Easy sharpen to razor cut. Great heads. Thanks for the pix Don.
