Squirrel season open
« on: September 01, 2011, 02:45:00 PM »
Well it is opening day for the tree rats here in Ohio. I am off work early and planning on checking trail cams and hopefully getting a little target practice. Maybe have some squirrel stew this weekend. If anyone has any good squirrel pics lets see them.

Here you go. Took a 50 # Shrew and a Hex Head on a footed Hex pine shaft to tackle this beasty. Baseball practice tonight for my 10 year old or Id be out there sweating and battling skeeters with bow in hand. Good luck to you.

This one is from last year. Shot my first buck with a longbow and on the way back to the truck I got my first traditional squirrel. Thunder Stick Mag 45@29, bamboo shafts, and Stos broadhead.

It started here in N.Y. today as well, went this a.m.with my 12 year old daughter,it was her first day of hunting we took .22 rifles saw 6 ,no dead ones. Then I took my 2 other daughters tonight and shot one with my homemade Hill style longbow, it was the first hunt with my new bow, what fun.

I have been out several times here in Illinois. For some strange reason I am not seeing many squirrels or cuttings from them. 2 to 3 squirrels each outing where I have always seen a dozen or more before.
