Sorry guys busy weekend.......so, where were we??? Oh yeah, ended with the Friday night hunt, nothing seen but the bait had been hammered from the night before. (I had to leave early for Hunter's football game, which they won by ending the defending champions 15 game unbeaten streak!!!)
Remember when I said I would bring you along for both the ups and the downs? Imagine my dissappointment when I got to the stand yesterday to find the bait hadn't been touched since I rebaited Friday afternoon......nada, none, and the only thing on the camera were racoons and a coyote. Not what I was expecting at all......I hunted yesterday from 1 pm to dark, and except for a couple of squirrels saw and heard nothing.
Seeing that I only have 9 more days of the baiting season left, I got up early this morning and was in my stand at dawn for a quick three hour hunt. Ups-bait hit hard again. Downs-My camera was gone!!!! I hunted till 9 am and then went to inspect the tree it had been on. I found one of the bungee cords there ripped apart, ok, so a bear took it. After a short search I found it about 50 yards behind the bait, right in the area that a smaller bear had been coming in from last year. Remarkably, the camera had no teeth marks nor any damage, and was still working!
I was able to view the images and saw that the bear was indeed the smaller one I had seen a number of times last year, this is the first time he has shown himself this year. I will put some pics of him up later this evening.
That's today's update, though I am a little concerned that the bigger bear hasn't been around the last couple of days. I know there is another hunter less than a mile as the crow flies, I'm hoping that bear didn't make his way down to that area....
Oh yeah, I didn't put my camera back out yet....
