Opening Day Success
« on: September 03, 2011, 09:26:00 PM »
Early doe season started today.  I got busted this morning by a doe, but this evening started off better.  First, I found a nice arrow in the ground, with a stainless broadhead that was still sharp!  And then first blood of the season:

Ok, the deer thing didn't work out today.  But it turns out that 9/3 is the first day of squirrel season here as well.  My first squirrel.  Taken while sitting on a log from about 5 yds.

So skinning and dressing went fairly well, but I still got a few hairs on the meat.  Any way to get them off besides watching them singe off on the bbq?  Washing didn't work.  Unless someone has a good idea, it looks like they'll get cooked with the rest of him.

Nice shot.

I won't shoot em, cause I won't eat them. Remind me of furry rats.

Reserved solely for survival situations. ;-p

Wash em off with some cold water. Will get rid of the hair.

Congrats again.

It wont hurt you.  I have eaten hundreds and a little hair wont mater a bit.  You can try to scrape it of with a knife on edge, if you must.

Takes a bloody graphic picture like that and then gets squeamish about a few hairs..

I thought the barbecue idea was pretty good. No hairs, and a tangy smoky flavor that reminds me of burning fletches.

Nice shot!

USN_Sam:  I'll try anything once.

TroutGuide:  Knife edge worked well enough.  I can't say I'm too worried about it, but the wife will refuse to have anything to do with it if there's still hair.  I've given up on logic on that front.

Kathy,

Is this better?  Not as graphic?
