Thankfull Trad is simple
« on: September 07, 2011, 09:11:00 PM »
I was just looking through the Bass pro catalog and could not get over how rediculous hunting has become. Out of a 702 page catalog the only thing I saw of intrest was a pair of wool socks. Four pages of just scent killer crap and five pages of super duper buck attractants made me sick. The toper was the eight plus pages of tree stands and huts that have more ammenities than my truck and cost as much as my truck. When I closed the catalog I said I am so thankfull I found trad archery and the simplicity of it, and how much easier it made it for me to just hunt. Thanks for letting me vent.

Back in Jersey, it was an adventure I got to live in GA for about a month and a half. My father in law got ill and the wife wanted to return home. I may return to the south in a few years. I had to take the chance instead of just wishing I did.

Yep....simple archery just seems so relaxing compared to the rest of that stuff. I had to go into a Bass Pro recently....trying to gather up a bunch of Rapalas that the walleye were crushing...I spent some time in thier "archery" section. There was not one single thing I was remotely interested in.

Awhile back, while I was laid up and just playing with words on the computer, I came up with this, which will join various bits of "wisdom" on the walls of my shop:

"Traditional Archery

Traditional archery should be relaxing, like a walk through the woods on an abandoned right of way… leisurely, scenic, with plenty of time to think about the past.  Obsessing over the technical aspects of equipment and technique can turn it into a rush hour drive on a five lane freeway and result in completely missing the simplicity and purity of the sport.

Crazy times. I'm with you, nice and simple. Last time I spent the day at BPS I came out with a bag of beef jerky.

being in a position of not having opportunity to hunt on private land much, such purchases would be a waste of funds. said funds are better suited  in the purchase of fuel and time spent wisely on public land to gain advantage over certain crowds who believe in the annual running of the dogs. oh to take just 1 or 2 on public land absent the gimmicks and lining the pockets of corporate sponsorship. rv
