I disagree totally. Respectfull of course. I would not call it simple. Look at all of the posts you see on Trad Gang. Archers trying to maximize the equipment they have chosen to shoot.
Simple, no. FOC, Stu's calculator, 58" or 60", RW or LW. Skinny string or standard string, dacron or FF, grip- high or low, options, body position, Big shot or standard soft glove or tab or what ever, Carbon, wood, aluminum, cut on contact, single bevel, double bevel, left bevel, right bevel, wool, synthetic, tree stand, ground blind, stalk, optics, cover scents or not, hard pad on the shelf, soft pad, three fingers under, split fingers, 3:1 ratio or shorter, two blade, three blade, tanto tip, glue on, screw on, back quiver, bow quiver, shield, parabolic, banana, etc. etc, etc.
Simple, I don't think so. Not in the least bit. We have our OWN quirks and versions of gadgets and such. We just make most of them. The bows most of us shoot cost what a top end compound costs.
Simple, no. Different yes. I speak for myself and reading most of the posts on here, most apprear to strive to maximize the equipment they have chosen to use.
WE (trad shooters) invest more time learning our kraft and studying the results of our experiments.
WE internally generate more satisfaction out of mastering a less complicated piece of equipment.
Again, respectfully, WE ARE THE SAME, BUT DIFFERENT.
Our conversation when we each gather as a group, centers on words like smooth, quick, silent, fit in the hand, shoots where I look, centercut, stack, glove or tab. Compound shooters talk about complete capture rests, feet per second, stabilizers, noise, string follow, sights, release, wall.
Compare the two, and you will find more similar thoughts than different.
Again, I respectfully disagree, but I had the same conversation in a new sporting good store today. I can shoot a compound and I can buy a crossbow. BUT, THE SATISFACTION I RECEIVE FROM SHOOTING MY RECURVES AND LONGBOWS CAN IN NO WAY COMPARE TO SHOOTING A COMPOUND. The feeling of a criply released finger held arrow that you know is going where you look can not be compared to squeezing the trigger on a release.
I support what you are saying and I FEEL WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.
But simple?
By the way, thanks for kicking this topic up. You must have ESP or ESPN (LOL) with that conversation I had late this afternoon concerning the pleasure of shooting traditional.
