Hi All
Last Friday at about 6pm a nice looking mule deer doe walked into my shooting lane and I took the shot. I shot my 55# Mohawk long bow (thanks Vince) and woodsman broads (thanks 3 Rivers). The arrow entered on the right side at the level of the 7th rib and exited low between the 2nd and 3rd ribs. She was down in 6 or 8 seconds.
Three days later, Monday evening a cow elk walked in front of the same tree stand and I got her also. She went down in 245 yards. That arrow buried to the white feathers near the 7th rib but I did not get an exit wound. (elk are big). I found her about 7:30. I had the quarters, back straps and loins etc, in bags by 9:30. And in the truck about mid-night. Hunting elk is fun. Shooting an elk is great! Getting an elk out or the woods at night, alone really sucks. But if you are mentally and physically prepared.... well it still sucks, but I am blessed to have had the opportunity of doing it - again.
Tomorrow I am headed back out to see if the bears have found the carcuss. If it looks like they are still working it I will hang a stand over it and spend the next 2 1/2 days sitting quietly. We will see......
