Opening day in GA
« on: September 11, 2011, 10:38:00 AM »
Opening day in north Georgia was beautiful even though it did get a bit warm during mid day. The morning began climbing into my stand at about 6am to be greeted by an Owl that was perched what had to be less than 10' form my stand. Almost dropped my bow!

Had a nice buck stroll by very early though I had to be content to watch him silently walk by at about 60 yards. Later a doe and fawn came by around 8am and I watched them for about 10 minutes or so. Lots of squirrels, chipmunks and bluejays!

In the evening a large coyote stolled by and I sent broadhead his way but shot just over his back at about 30 yards.

As I sat in the stand yesterday evening it hit me just how wonderfully simple the sport of trad is and how somehow it helped me appreciate everything else that was going on around me even more. I spent a good deal of the day reflecting and I have to say the view in my small part of the world yesterday was a great one

It was a great day to be in the woods and I do find that I am missing the simplicity of my day yesterday. I decided several weeks ago that I would not be hunting today in observance of 9/11. I will spend the day with my family and try to help my daughter understand the importance of what happened 10 years ago today. The tragic loss of life and the sacrifices made that day, and since, by so many of our true American Heros.

God bless America and NEVER forget September 11, 2001!

Sounds like an awesome day and I must admit Im a little jealous, Ive got a few weeks before Ill be up in a deer stand. I will be observing 9/11 by watching my sons little league game and then taking both of my sons squirrel hunting and letting them know why I think we were attacked and to never take for granted what we have in America.  Be sure to at least shoot an arrow in remembrance. Never forget the lost and never forget who attacked us.
