I went to a bowhunting seminar at the Scheel's store in Springfield, IL yesterday and met 3 of the nicest guys. Bryce Lambley, Mike Mitten, and Gene Wensel. I was only planning to stay for 2 hours due to other commitments, but ended up staying for 4+. They all had great presentations and were very sharing of their knowledge and experience. It was nice to go to a seminar or talk and not be "sold" a gadget or product. The only thing they were "selling" was a love for the outdoors and a passion for hunting. I have been a little down about the hunting season this year because of projects at work and home and Mike especially helped me see that my passion for hunting and that "need" is what ultimately fuels me through the rest of the year.
Traditional archery was not pushed, but I'm not sure the same feelings or understanding and accepting nature would have been conveyed by most of the "commercial" compound hunters. All I can say is thank you all 3 for giving of your time, and I hope Mike has a great hunt in Utah and Bryce and Gene have a great opening day wherever they find themselves.
P.S. I also won the raffle for a Sitka pack, so that was a great bonus. My wife already tried to swipe it for me being 2 hours late.
