We are headed to Missouri....we have driven 340.3 miles and have  942.4 miles to go.  We used to drive it all in one day...now it takes two days.

Nothing but a coyote this morning and he either caught me moving or my wind, did the head bob thing a couple of times and departed.  :)

Dina I can't wait to read and see what you and Tom do this season.

It's always an exciting read.

I need to get a little more serious about my hunting as the rut activity seems to be picking up.

Good hunting!

The buck killed on the lease this AM was chasing 2 does! Not sure what they thought about it tho.

Also came to a grunt tube.

And I am officially on vacation now!  :bigsmyl:

Good luck Kenny.  Keep us posted on the activity.  I have to work another week before my vacation starts.

Well I got to get out this afternoon, best of all I took my 14 year old daughter.  We were on the ground behind a small blind, no deer were seen but we had close encounters of the turkey kind!  I managed to cut a couple feathers but that was it, however a fantastic hunt for a father daughter outing.

We camped in Paducha last night.

We are about 20 miles from St Louis and have seen 32 dead deer in Illinois so far.   We saw a yote sneaking up on a carcass at about 8 am.  Hey Mudd hope we have some GOOD stories for ya!

We are sort of stiff and sore today from the 742 miles in the truck yesterday....every year we plan to pace ourselves but
then we can't stand it....we think we hear the deer calling our names and all those plans to pace ourselves fly out the window.

Cool Kenny they are hard to hit...armadillos are lots easier.   Our Uncle the farmer hates them...says we can shoot an extra deer for every yote taken,,,but have not been able  to connect.  They are becoming a problem due to the numbers.

This evening I had a buck respond to some very soft grunting.

All I could do is count coupe on him as he had some nicely curved spikes about 10" long.

He presented in two different positions that would have made excellent shots.(broadside and quartering away, both at about 15 yards)

Heck of a nite tonite!

Hit the stand at 4:00, at 4:25 a medium 8 shows along creek 250 yds out. He eats beans for a bit, then drops back in creek.

5: I hear something to the east,a deer slipping thru the brush toward the beanfield. Holy moly there is already 5 in the field! Ends up being 9 there, they are coming towards me,will hit my scent and blow outta there.

It never happens, one doe raised her nose, but nothing was said.

A few minutes later a good 8 pt comes out and starts my way. He gets past bein downwind of me and looks my way and trots off as I'm trying to get a pic.

I look back the other way and there is a GOOD 8 pt.

He makes a scrape and then heads down the trail to a 10 yd shot.He is about to hop the ditch and be in my lane when the SQUIRREL makes an acrobatic leap with a rough landing bout 8' over his head. He turns nearly inside out and leaps back to stand 8 yds from me,scanning every tree in the timber.I don't wanna shoot til he settles down, but he walks away without giving me a good shot...(meanwhile does and fawns have been coming by  in bunches, lost count around 20)

Dang you squirrel!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

put my stand in an osage tree and had two bucks(spike, fork) under me eating the oranges, with six does closing in on me, then a nice eight comes to join in and the two small bucks left in a hurry...he was walking straight at me and at six yds. he looked rite straight up at me, i wasnt expecting that and i flinched ,..he bounced off about thirty yds. and stared at me!!
sonova!! he was trying to get to the does on the other side of me, and circled wide, then i lost him in the dark...maybe in the mornning..
