Prayers and condolences to his family.
Living only an hour or so north of Lamont's place here in MN I was lucky enough to visit with him many times over the years.
Lamont was, as some have already said, one of the greats of archery. His shop, The Footed Shaft, was a wonderful place to visit with him. From all the old bows he had on display on the ceiling to all the old archery magazines and books - Lamont was a treasure trove of all the stuff and stories that continue to keep me loving our great sport all these years.
One quick story that shows a little bit of what Lamont was like:
I'd known Lamont as a customer for about 20 years - but was never a close friend, although he always made me (and eventually my son) feel that way. My wife has a number of health problems, some of them have needed care from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Lamont's shop is only about 10 minutes from where we were staying there.
Many of my wifes appointments would run 2 or more hours, any of you that have had to deal with health problems know how much waiting there is, so she suggested that I go visit Lamont.
Since we had to be at the Mayo many times that Summer I would spend a few hours at Lamonts when it worked out.
Lamont was always a gracious host, especially considering that I could not afford to buy things every time I was there.
Once Lamont found out that I was with my wife at the Mayo it did not take long for him to begin offering me books and videos to take with me (borrow) to help make this trying time easier.
One of the videos was very rare footage of Paul Schafer on a number of hunting trips with his friends in Alaska!
He never hesitated to offer his time to share his knowledge and even some of his prized archery items.
I'll never forget Lamonts kindness, vast knowledge of archery and great sense of humor - he will be missed.
