Sitka Gear Merino Wool
« on: September 18, 2011, 06:44:00 PM »
Did some testing on my recent bear hunt.  Wore my new set of Merino wool base layer.  Temps ranged from 40 to 85 and after 6 days...no stink.  Very impressed.  Comfortable in every temperature.

Was that the stuff you were wearing today?  If so, I still couldn't smell you.  Must be some good stuff.

How much sweating did you do in it up there?  Did you think it wicked away moisture better than the non-Merino versions?  Looking to upgrade base layers this year.

Steve

I appreciate your opinion.  I have been considering going all merino base and maybe even adding some outer wear.

Like Steve, I have been impressed with it mine.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

IMO...

Almost as good wicking as the Core series, and a little bit warmer than the same when it is cooler.

I am not getting rid of any of the Core--that stuff is antelope heaven, but for elk and deer out west, I can see the Merino getting the call just for its versatility.

For me, merino wool has been the best "no stink" clothing made.
Went 10 days in colorado with the same base layer, I stunk, but the clothes did not.
Wore the same merino wool base layer hunting around home last season. Same shirt for 14 seperate outtings...no stink!
