Status on Grizzly BH's ???
« on: September 20, 2011, 11:40:00 AM »
All,

Did a little searching and couldnt find any current info on this.  Does anybody have an update on the grizzly bh dissapearance.  Seems like some thought it had to do with ski season but that hasnt started yet has it???

I've been waiting and listening also and have heard absolutely no news.It doesn't sound good to me.Purely conjecture on my part but I am fairly confident that if they decide to quit making them, that someone else would step in.It just seems like the logical way for that to go.There is some demand for them and Grizzly's have received more attention in recent years than ever.I believe the demand will lead to a solution.

I think there are so many grizzly like heads out there now that are built even better that grizzly heads are a mute point. I like the 160s used em a bit, but will find another 2 blade for replacements when the last are gone.

My first trad deer Sept 10 was with an Eclipse RH bevel 125gr head and with adapter it went to 177gr.

Easy to sharpen and my goodness it was lethal. I have some RH Grizzlys but they don't fly as well as the Eclipse. Could be my tune but the Eclipse sure flies wobble free and true.

One thing I go know is that Grizzly's are a definitely a heck of a bargain.  I would really hate to see them go by the wayside.  There must be quite a bit of desire for them or a fellow would still be able to find a few for sale.

I had ordered several dozen last year for my family to shoot, was going to restock again but ordered some Tuffheads, pretty impressed, shave out of the package, teflon coated, adapters fit better and all the way down. Dimensions are like the modified Grizzly,  Kind of nice to have something ready to go. Grizzly's are a good buy but a lot of work to get ready.

HB3,

Amen on the work to get ready. I worked 3 hours yesterday just getting a good edge on 5 of the 6 heads I got this year. It took alittle over and hour day before yesterday to balance them onto the adpt.

Thats four hours and still have one head to sharpen.

I agree. They are a lot of work and that could be alleviated if they just finished out the bevel. It could still be a coarse grind if they just finished it to the edge. That would add very little to the cost and you could hone them up in about 1/4th the time.

My times are just about exactly like yours Troy. The good news is,after you have them all worked out, resharpening takes no time at all.

I find the ferrule on the new version of the El Grandes to be excellent as well as the other changes.I'm hoping someone will just work that bevel to the edge.

None of the single bevel heads are as long as the Grizzly, except the Tuffhead. They are $18 a piece and Grizzlies are $5.I'm not sure when Grizzly's will be available again but I still believe they will be around a long time.

I do plan to get some Tuffheads.I believe they are worth what they are asking.

Guys, I don't know why its taking you so long. I spend maybe 10 minutes the first time on re-working each head.

I use an auto body rasp for that- the first thing I do is flatten the 'flat' side, because its not flat.  Then change the bevel to suit.

I'm in agreement with JimB- why pay 18-30 dollars for a head that's trying to duplicate the performance of the Grizzly?

I was sent a couple of the Tuffheads to try- and I will, but I have enough Grizzers to keep me flush for a good while....

Add your time to the 5 bucks and they are even more expensive than Abowyer Brown Bears! I would much rather take the time and have dinner with the family.

It's a fact Bjorn.A lot of folks think that there time is worthless. It isn't and as we grow older it becomes very apparent it isn't unlimited.I work for myself so I know exactly what an hour of my time is worth and any time I do labor that doesn't pay,I know what I'm losing in income, despite the fact that a like working on this stuff.

I was at black dog outfitters north of Grand Rapids, MI today and they had a supply of the grizzlys if you are looking. If I knew there was a shortage I might of bought a pack or two.

I like how the Grizzlies fly with my set up. I'm trying to get four of them sharp with the help of Ron of KME. When I get these babies sharp I will be able to sharpen ANYTHING! If I knew where to get more, I would. Ron says people are paying $10 each for them.

Probably not a universal notion on my part, but I think every broadhead should be hunt ready (i.e., razor sharp) out of the package. The work shouldn't begin until you've already taken game or otherwise used it.  A new un-sharp broadhead or new un-sharp knife seems like an oxymoron to me.

So,  Has anybody heard anything or are the makers just MIA.  I mean somebody has to know them personally.  It might be a good oportunity for someone that wanted to have an at home business.  Heck if I had the coin I would be interested

I read on another thread/site that the maker is concentrating on snow and ski stuff which is the other part of his business.

Ha! I dropped into BDO to visit Tom and pick up some feathers today and he was taking phone orders for Grizzly's to ship. He noted the weird run on a single product all shipping out of state and wondered what was up. I told him it was probably a tradgang thread about it...
