A long time ago my dad and I use to hunt from a canoe, just float'n down the creek. We'd get some game like that, but never shot a deer from the water, ducks, rabbits, squirels, phesants, but never a deer.
I have a 16' cedar strip canoe that needs a little work done to it, that I need to get at, so I can start using it again. I like to throw a little fly fish'n in with an October deer hunt, nothing better !

used to float a river and get squirrels and a few waterfowl.. saw a couple deer... but it worked better to get to some stands on the edges of swamps... Sorta like a  ATV is used these days...

I don't know about hunting from it, but this year I hope to canoe to an otherwise inaccessible spot make camp and hunt for a few days. River, Canoe, Tent, Campfire, Bow, and maybe a Deer; it doesn't get much better.

Kip- for many years I was a scuba instructor and ran dive boats- thus the "Capt." I still have a USCG 500ton Masters ticket (which I haven't used in many years)

The Texas Water Safari and marathon river racing is an addiction for us crazy river rats down here in Texas.

I'm also an avid saltwater/coastal kayak fisherman.

I usa a canoe to float for ducks alot (with a gun), but not as much for deer with a bow.  Do use it to get to hard to access places for deer though.

I've only hunted a few times, none succesfully, with trad gear from canoes.  Have used it to access a couple of great spots and used muzzleloader, rifle and compound to account for at least 10 deer and 2 pigs that I can remember.  Have not taken shots from the canoe though, although it is legal if under paddle power here in GA.  I dont' have any digital photos, may try to scan a couple if I can find them.  Cheers.

while not a true canoe (its a pirogue), this here is going to be my next big project...
 http://www.bateau2.com/free/cheapcanoe.htm
the plans are free and the materials are cheaper than buying a used canoe.
