Scott & I dry out Thursday & Friday morning, and decide to check out a few areas he knows usually have some elk. We hang a treestand in one area I had an encounter with a big bull a few years back. After hanging, we sit & listen for a while. At around 1:30 some bulls bugle below, the stage is set for tomorrow am. I decide it`s time for an all day sit (nice break from walking my keister off). Some random pics around my stand.

Here is where Paints His Shirt Red rides up and tells me what a bad fisherman I am.

You tell a good story!

Out to the stand Saturday before light, sit until noon, break for lunch with a little walk. Back in for the afternoon. No elk sighted or heard. I could not believe with all the sign an elk would not show if I sat all day. Oh well, nice day anyway.

On the drive back I think I got a little deflated, & I think Scott could sense it.

We decided to take a little break, do some sheep scouting with the family( Scott has a coveted bighorn tag in all this, but he is trying to break my elk jinx so he doesnt have to listen to me whine anymore   :)

Nice to see some neat new country & scout for sheep. We have a great time on the mountain with Janet, Owen & labdog Matty.

I decided to try a new spot Sunday evening. Scott & i did a little poking around , he has killed elk in there before & it looked promising to me. A large area logged off a few years ago. Some think the clearcutting is ugly, but I cut my teeth on hunting cuts for deer, this "ugly" stuff was right up my ally.

Sunday evenings really seem to quiet down in the mountains, all the day hikers & such are back in the city. This day was no exception. I could feel something was going to happen that night, sometimes you just get a feeling, ya know?

An hour before dark I decided to try a bugle, something we dont normally do. There is just too much human activity, but I felt I needed to stir things up.

I let a bugle rip & get an answer instantly. Alright! One more answer by me back & he bugles a lot closer, here he comes. Now I am getting excited. I can see an awesome rack coming up my ridge.
