Headed out with long time friend Deadsmple today for some deer hunting. After giving some thought to the weather (rainy and cool), we decided on a location to hunt and began our trek into the woods. Once in the area, we split up. Deadsmple had a place all ready set up, I needed to find a spot. I came across a promising set up and jumped in. With hardly any work I was set and ready. This is the spot.

After a couple hours, I began to hear movement up behind me. I was not set up for any shots in that direction with my back to a tree and facing down the slope. I tried to look over my shoulder a couple of times, but didn't see any thing. After a while I heard something close, turned to look again, and there was a doe coming along a little wary. In stop and go motion, she worked her way around me and was coming down on my right. While this was happening, I had to get low, move away from the tree and make a 1/4 turn in order to be set for a shot. As she came down, I held up my bow at half draw. She finally came to an opening slightly alerted to me, and I finished my draw, hit anchor and watched my 765gr arrow take the long 33 yard journey out to the deer. She tuned to run off and my arrow vanished from sight. She didn't run hard, she was unsure of what went down. This was my shot way out this lane.

Not long after I shot I got up to see if my arrow was on the ground, or if I could find blood. Deadsmple thought he had heard a commotion and came up to help out. He happened to find first blood and we were off. After 15 yards I saw my arrow up on a hillside. Now that the arrow was out, there was plenty of blood to follow. However, that would not be necessary. I looked over across a small stream in a little ravine next to us, and over to the adjacent hillside. The deer lay expired. She had tried to climb a steep hill and, with out working vitals she was done. I had put the arrow right behind the last rib, through liver and everything else up to the neck.

After eviscerating the deer, we washed it out in the cold flowing stream to help cool it down quickly.

Next it was time to relax, take another hero shot, and take a couple shots each at a distant stump. We both shot well. Then we talked about the morning, and I vented some of my excitement.

My new 70" 55#@28"yew and purpleheart double shelf Mahantango is on the right Deadsmple was shooting the 70" 55#@28" Yew and macaser ebony Mahantango on the left.

Deadsmple helped me get the doe up over my shoulders, and I took off up the trail that would lead us out of the woods to the house. After checking the deer in at the deer station, it was back to the house for the butcher work. We took our time and had all the meet in the freezer after a few hours.

Thanks for coming along. Now I sleep.
