I've used a merino Llano crew for several seasons now and it is a wonderful garment.  Merino wool is the cat's meow.

I have several of their items and love them. I have heard bad things about the first pair of pants(gila pant), but I think the issues were addressed with the new ones(Kanab). You really cant go wrong with Merino Wool.

I have read on several sites that the kanab pants have a very unusual fit. Most of what I have read about the pants has been very negative.

I own both the kanab and gila pant.  If you are looking for an extremely light weight early season pant you will be hard pressed to find a better one.  As far as the difference between the two is pretty hard to tell.  The stitching in the kanab pant is not as tight as the gila pant which results in a little more "itchy" feeling against bare skin.  With that said, you will be hard pressed to find a wool pant that has tighter stitching as either of the first lite pants.

As far as size is concerned, yes it is whacked.  Call them on the phone and they will tell you as much.  I typically wear a 32 waste and a 34 to 36 length pant, the XL size in the first lite is very close to a 32 waste and a 34 length.  The leg cut is closer to a taper cut rather than a boot cut.

The stitching is tight enough to provide pretty good wind protection, and when coupled with a base layer they provide pretty good insulation.

I have owned Sitka ascents pants and tried the KUIU attack pants, really did not care for either one, the first lite pants are my pick of the other two mentioned.

I really like the pants.  Not sure what negatives everyone is talking about.  You will have to order a size larger than you normally wear.  Otherwise they are very durable, very well built and very comfortable.

I have the Gila pant and could not be happier. Just make sure you get the right size, I agree the sizing is whacked. It is worth calling them first. Merino is the way to go!

Size is REALLY whacked.  I am a 36 x 34L and they had NOTHING that fit- tried the biggest they make.  Thighs too tight and length was like my wife's capris.  Awfully light wt. too- not sure how durable.

As far as durability is concerned, I have had three pairs of Sitka Ascents pants tear at the seams, and also had the crotch area tear out on the KUIU pants, I have had none of these problems with the First lite pants.  Does the material seem paper thin as first glance, yes it does, but with that said I have been suprised by the durability.  The only tear that I have in any of my first lites pant is from not clearing a barbwire fence.
