Howdy Fellas, I live Close to Hughes Springs, Tx. Me and a friend are in the process of making the switch to Trad only. I have been bowhunting since I was very young and used a compound with no sights up until age 16 then went the compound with all the bells route. I have found with age that traditional is much more challenging and fun. I have a lot to learn and so far it has been great. Just wanted to say hi and let ya know where i'm hunting this season. I bagged a cow elk last month in a diy hunt in colorado but that was before I made the switch. good luck this season and God Bless.

Might head back out tomorrow evening as the rain has hit. Left the ranch earlier today.

We got 3.2" of rain today. A lot of people's stock tanks are full or close to it. This should help our animal population.

I just got home from 4 days at my lease near Tilden. I shot a big fat doe. She was in great shape and weighed 109lbs. I saw quite a few does and fawns for our place but the bucks were not so good. I saw 6 bucks - 2 spikes, 2 four pointers, and 2 six pointers. NONE of the fours or sixes had any brow tines. I hope this was a fluke and I see more and better bucks as the season plays out. Bodywise though, our deer seem to be in prety good shape.

The temp for hunting was pretty bad today and yesterday. However all the feeders are now full, at least.

Hunted in a light rain last nite. saw a few critters moving round. We got some rain, not like most of you did tho. It will settle the dust for a day or two at least.

My lease in in Taft and we finally got some rain yesterday. I'm heading to Hebronville this weekend for a dove/pig hunt and then the following weekend for an Axis hunt in the hill country. Keep praying for more rain.

I went to my place near Leakey in the Hill Country to fill feeders opening weekend but didn't hunt because there was to much work to finish up. We filled a feeder that is 400yrds from the deck at 4:30PM on Saturday afternoon and went back to the house. At 4:45 the feeder went off and 10 minutes later we had two 3yr old 8 points and 5 doe at the feeder. I has working on the feeder and setting up a trailcam for at least 2 hours and the deer still came in. Just goes to show you how hungry they are.

Saw deer in SHNF last weekend. We still hunt and got within 25 yards of two doe before they spooked. we walk up on three other deer a few minutes later. Didn't get a shot. They are moving very late almost dark.

I hunted the Aransas Wildlife Refuge last week. I saw 2 does, and a small herd of hogs. Never got a shot at the deer, but the hogs gave me an opportunity at a 35yds. in the dark. All I got was some hair:( There were some lucky guys though. I think the biggest was a 10 pointer at 40 yds. He was shooting a "Wheeled Devil" though.....Gonna go out to the ranch down here in Laredo this week, much better luck there.... I did manage to get a ram on another ranch out in Webb County opening weekend...It's posted on here.

Baird/Cross Plains looks like it got a good amount of rain. Rancher said 5"
Everyone else said between 4-6"
Full moon kinda stinks, but the animals were moving tonight right at sunset.
I'll be back at it Friday afternoon.
