*First, if someone could help me post pictures that would be great. I have always had a hard time posting pictures and still can't seem to figure it out*
This story actually starts last Sunday, October 2. I was hunting a stand that is in the corner of a corn field and inbetween a hedgerow. I had passed up on a couple does and yearlings earlier in the day (evening hunt) and around 7:10 I had this nice 8 pointer come out of no where. He walked into 17 yards, I pulled up my longbow and .. missed. Shot right under him. I was sick to my stomach! I could not believe it. This would have been my biggest buck, I kept thinking.
The bow that I was using was actually my buddies longbow because my top limb on my Robertson actually busted a little while back and have not been able to replace it yet due to lack of funds. Well after the miss, my buddy lent me his Bighorn for the week because he was heading up north for work. So I practiced with it and became extremelly confident with it.
Thursday, October 6. I raced home from work and was able to get settled into my stand around 4:30. Around 6 I had two button bucks and a doe come into around 15 yards. I was really thinking about taking the doe because we have no venison in the freezer .. but I decided to let her walk because I knew that the 8 pointer was still out here.
Long story short, around 7:15 I look over and see the same 8 point that I missed on Sunday coming in. He came into 15 yards, slightly quartering away, I bleated, he stopped and my arrow entered right where I was looking. As he ran off, I saw a great amount of blood on his side, I knew it was a great shot.
I waited around an hour and a half to two hours to track, just to be safe. Following the blood trail was not an issue, great blood the whole way. Then finally, not even 40 yards from where I shot him, I find him. My biggest buck! Nice Michigan corn feed 8 point.
Like I stated before, I was using my buddies Bighorn 55# @ 28" goldtip arrows tipped with 160 grain snuffers.
Thanks for listening!
