Looking for some help?
« on: October 10, 2011, 03:22:00 PM »
Some of you may know about my medical condition, and some may not. But due to it, I have not been able to shoot for almost 2 years now for any period of time. My muscle memory has gone to almost nothing. What I am looking for if anyone would have one is a light poundage long bow, Hill style or other straight limb bow to get back to shooting and building my form back. I don't have the funds to buy a new bow, but everything that I have is home made and in heavier poundages. If there is anyone out there that has one that they could loan out for a while, I sure would appreciate it at least until I can make me one. I am open to all suggestions to try and get myself back to where I used to be, but have to work on form first. Thanks in advance to everyone.

When you say light poundage what did you have in mind?

What poundage are you looking for?  Right hand or left hand?

I would like to start with something in the 30-35 poundage and Right handed. I draw somewhere, or use to, around 27 inches. Nothing higher than 35 for now, as I have some in the 40-45 and up range. Even a 25-30 would work to get me started.

Charles, I wish I did because it would be in the mail tomorrow.  I'm sure someone will step up and help you out.  Nice to see you getting back into it.

Charlie, while I don't have a bow for you, I can offer you some exercises to build up your shooting form.  I use dumbbells to boost my muscle performance for shooting.  In your case, for a 30#-35# range, I would start with 7# dumbbells, working up to 15# dumbbells.  Grab the dumbbells, and stand in your shooting stance.  Then Push and Pull with just as you would your bow when drawing.  These motions mimic what you would do.  To balance the workout, I also reverse directions.  I alternate, left and right hand shooting motions.  For a righty shooter, I push with my left and pull with my right, for a lefty, it is the opposite.  I do both, to balance, just my OCD I guess.  Start out with a 7 pounder in each hande, do 4 sets of 8-10 reps each day.  Then the following week, increase to 10 pounders, and so on.  To strengthen your upper back, also use dumbbells.  Do reverse flyes.  Normal flyes are done on a weight bench, with a dumbbells in each hand, and you have your arms slightly bent, and you "hug a tree".  these are for your chest.  Reverse flyes, will work your upper back. Pick up the dumbbells, then crouch down a bit, bend your knees, and lean forward.  Know you hug, then open up, bringing your elbows towards your back.  I hope this helps you out.  Good luck, and keep plugging away at it.

Thanks Killdeer and everyone. This bow means a lot more to me than most any of you could ever know.  Again, a very special thank you to cdCrow.
