New to Me Tall Tines T/D Recurve
« on: October 12, 2011, 10:56:00 AM »
I had convinced myself I was through buying bows.  Then I saw the Tall Tines T/D recurve Greg Dwyer had for sale in the Classifieds.  Needless to say, I bought it.  The bow is 60", 53#@28".  Below are a couple pics of the bow.

I couldn't tell it by looking at the pics, but the riser has a Bocote center accent and Bocote accent on the back side of the riser window.  The limb bolt pads are also Bocote.

The draw weight is a bit too heavy for me and I prefer 62" bows, so I'm going to have Brian build a new set for me.  Now that I see what the accents are, it's a no brainer to have him use Bocote for the veneers.  I love Bocote and the Brazilian Rosewood looks a lot like Cocobolo.  So the Rosewood/Bocote combo will be a great match for me.

I forgot to mention the grip is to die for.  I swear I spent a couple of days in Brian's shop so he could mold the grip to my hand.  But since I've never been in the state of IA I know that's not the case.

Great bow!  I love mine.  I went thru a lot of bows trying to find my Tall Tines.

I agree about Brian's grip Bill. The GRIP RIDGE is the cat's meow, insuring the exact same grip shot after shot.

Congrats

It's not a matter of believing you.  It's a matter of looking at the budget to see if I can fit it in.  :(   :)

Yep, that bows a beauty for sure.  You'll learn that you won't need other bows.

LoweBow,

Actually, I'm having Brian build a new set of limbs for the riser for me that will yield a 62" bow,  46#@28" and tillered for three under.  I really like Bocote with reddish colored woods and the Brazilian Rosewood certainly qualifies for that.  After I receive the new limbs, I will be trying to find a new home for the limbs that came with the bow.

I too just acquired a 60", 54#, lefty TT. I'm anxious to find out what the hype is all about. Should have it this week-end to play with. Hope your right Steve O...cause I know where you live : ^ ))))

Great bows, great price, great craftsmanship.

Only complaint I ever hear from anyone that sells them is the grip ain't for everyone.  It's as true a "locater" style grip as you'll ever put in your hand.  I love mine!

LoweBow,

The grip is the best feature to me thus far, even over the beauty of the woods in the bow.  I'm going to The Archery Shop during lunch today to shoot it.  I can't wait until Saturday!!!    :)    :D    :biglaugh:

Well, I went to The Archery Shop during lunch and shot my TT.  My first observation is that it shoots very fast, even with my 482 gr GrizzlyStik Sitka arrows.  My second observation is it's not a bow I would want to shoot a lot, like at a 3-D shoot, because of the draw weight.  The bow is ultra quiet to boot.  I'm glad I have a set of 62", 46#@28" limbs on order with Brian.

I went to The Archery Shop today and shot the new to me TT again.  It is wicked fast, shoots very quietly and very accurate for me out to 15 yards.  It's a keeper.!

After having shot this bow twice, I think I'm going to ask Brian to increase the draw weight on the new set of limbs he's going to build for me to 48# or 49#.  I know the 62" limbs will be smoother on the draw and the 60", 53#@28" limbs aren't as hard on my shoulder when I'm actually shooting it as have other bows of that draw weight range when I shoot them.

After shooting the 60", 53#@28" limbs on my TT a couple of times, I've decided to ask Brian to change the order for my new 62" limbs to a draw weight of 49#@28".  I like 62" limbs on my recurves because they draw much smoother than the 60" recurves I had been buying.

I sent Brian an email late yesterday afternoon to ask him to change the draw weight to 49#@28" and followed up with a phone call this morning.  He is so easy to talk with.  It must have something to do with the Midwest upbringing that we have in common.

I shipped my riser to Brian Friday.  He sent an email to me telling me he had the limbs glued up and he was ready for the riser.  The limbs will have Bocote veneers to match the center accent stripe and the accents on the front side of the riser.

I also sent a MO to him to cover the cost of checkering of the grip.  I like to have the grips of my bows checkered.
