After flip flopping from a compound to traditional and back again over the last couple of years, I found myself wanting to ease back into traditional archery/hunting again. After looking at some different bows in the classified section, I contacted WidowEater about a Whisperstik Mojostik Recurve he had for sale. Before long, the deal was done, and after a loooonnnngggg wait (Columbus Day.....don't get me started), the bow arrived safe and sound. It arrived on Tuesday, Oct 11, and I pretty much immediately started shooting it every chance I got. It didn't take me too long get back to being reasonably accurate with it, so before long, it was out to the stand with it.
Last night (Friday the 14th), I was sitting in a tripod stand, close to a bedding area. At about 6:50, I was caught flat footed when a doe walked right through my narrow shooting lane, without slowing down. I grabbed my bow, and waited, hoping she wasn't alone. As luck would have it, she wasn't, and I was ready for the next one....
She was about 18 yards away, pretty much broadside. I hit her right in the crease, midway up her body. I was shooting a GT 55/75, tipped with a 125 grain Phat Head, with a 50 grain weight behind the insert, and weedeater line inside the shaft for extra weight. My bow is a Mojostik, 54# @ 28".
The arrow penetrated right to the fletchings, and she broke it when she took off after the shot. She went approximately 100 yards before collapsing.
I'm really liking the Whisperstik....every bit as quiet as any longbow I've ever shot, and completely dead in the hand. I have to say thanks Troy (Widoweater) for hooking me up with a great bow.
