Carbon footing update
« on: October 19, 2011, 04:36:00 PM »
After finding out that 10" of footing would not change the spine of my arrow I decided to take the chance and glue one fast. I shot it this afternoon and I'm happy to report that it flew like a dart. I think this extra long footing will not only increase the strength of the shaft I also think it will increase penetration by stopping arrow deflection at the point where the arrow meets the target upon impact

Interesting.Thanks.I have 1" of footing on my Victory arrows and the have held up well on frontal hits.I have had 3 break near the middle on side hits. That's in about 6 months vs no breaks on Gold Tips in 3 years of the same kind of shooting.

They are thinner walled and I believe not as tough as the Gold Tips and some others but I haven't seen anything that would make me believe it would happen on game, except after the hit.All 3 of my breaks were within an inch or two of the center of the shaft.

Thanks Earl.

Just curious. Why would you want a 10"footing?

My reason for 10" of footing. Only a theary.

With the exception of price Carbon shafts are far superior to any other.

Jeff........

I use a 3" footing with the insert in the aluminum footing over the carbon insert to gain more up front weight. I think the insert in the carbon will strenthen the carbon and reduce impact damage.
