This is not good...
« on: October 20, 2011, 08:04:00 AM »
I was able to get out and do a little hunting over the weekend, I did not have any success but was happy to be in the woods. After hunting Sunday morning I decided to head out to the yard and take a few shots with my Tree's cutsom recurve, at the 3-D target. After about ten shots this happened..

Needless to say this is going to hinder my hunting season. I have had this bow for about 3 years and I am not sure why the limb decided to go now, it has never been dry fired, and I always unstring it and hang it up after each use. I talked to Tracey Trickett about getting new limbs made but he is no longer making bows due to personal reasons, so he said it could take a long while to get limbs made. Fortunately I have a backup but I do not shoot it very well   :banghead:

Would it be possible for another bowyer to make you a set of limbs?

Matt just had the same thing happen to his tree bow. That's a downer for sure! Glad you weren't hurt physically.

Dirty Bird, I appreciate your offer! But I am going to see this as an opportunity to allow my 72 Bear Kodiak Hunter to shine in the woods. Unfortunately I do not shoot it as well as my Tree bow, but I guess I need to stop whining and get out there an practice.

Tracey said that he was having some problems with his recurve limbs on a couple of his designs, not sure why. I am also puzzled at why my bow broke now and not earlier in its life. Tracey is an excellent person and craftsman, I would never talk down about his bows or his skill as a bowyer. But as Rick said I have considered talking to another bowyer about limbs especially because Tracey is not making  bows now. I live about a half hour from Bob Morrison and have considered talking to him about a set of limbs. But I feel if I were to do that I would want a morrison riser as well; and thats serious cash    :readit:

I well remember something Bob (M) told me years ago.

"All bows have a life span. None of them can be shot forever, including mine. You just never know when yours is going to die".

This is where a superior bowyer and his proven designs really shine. Sorry for your misfortune.

Check with Jim Gainey @ Black Creek bows. He goes by Swampmaster on here I believe. I wouldn't be surprised that he could make you a set of nice limbs in a short time frame. Great guy to deal with.

I would think that it wouldn't be cost effective for a bowyer to build a form to make one set of limbs for someone. Your probably just going to have to buy another bow and wait for Tree to start building again. Sorry about the break.

What was the limb material and the draw weight? Gotta be honest it does look awful thick in the spot it broke. Bows tend to break where they dont bend rather then where they do..

As far as the Bear Kodiak goes, I would definitely re-do all the measurements, measure draw weight and length. Then make sure you have the best possible shaft and point combination and get back out there brotha!! Good luck to you.

One door closes and another opens. The next bow you get may fit you better than that one did.

Too bad it had to happen during hunting season...but think of how close it may have been to giving out while actually drawing on game.  :scared:

I second that, or even Mike at Mad Dog could help you out.  Sorry to see that happen!
