Well this is my first year hunting with traditional gear, and it has been kinda a long road. I started shooting traditional archery early this year and with the help of several TG'ers and my loving wife I have stuck with it through times when it would have been much easier to just go back to what would have been easier ( my wheel bow).
My first week of hunting was filled with disappointment, lots of deer out of range and a miss at about 10 yards!! Didn't pick a spot.... heck I'm not sure if I picked and animal!!!
Week 2 rolled around with warm weather and slow deer movement :( . Wednesday brought cooler weather and good wind for my favorite stand. At about 6:00 I noticed a nice mature doe working her way right up the trail that would put her at about 15 yards in front of me. She fed her way up the trail, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. This time I walked myself through the process of taking a shot, just as I have done many time in the past on 3D targets.
She was walking very slow and feeding at the same time when I drew my bow, PICKED A SPOT and sent the arrow on its way. My arrow entered a touch high, but due to the fact that she was so close, I got the top of one lung and the center of the other just before stopping in her opposite shoulder. She made it about 75 yards and expired.
Now I know that its only a doe, but this is a major accomplishment for me. Thanks to all who have helped me in my adventure, and here is a pic to end the story. It was well after dark, by the time I got her out of the woods, so I had to wait till this morning to take pics,
