was wondering how big of a brim to get
i looked around and see 1 1/2 1 3/4 and 2s
what is the right size brim for best string clearance at full draw
i know it will depend but maybe if you guys chime in i can do a average of what you all wear

What size brim has alot to do with shooting style. Some guys can't wear a hat with a brim at all. I cant my bow quite a bit brim size doesn't seem to bother me much, I like it a little wider, protects me from the rain, snow, and shades my face for concealment. Works for me.

The largest bow that I shoot is a 60" bow and my hat brim is 2". With this combination, if I draw my bow when it is vertical, the bowstring just touches the brim of my hat at full draw.

I shoot almost vertical hence I turn my baseball cap around or shoot wearing a beanie

Like I said before: "Nice hat."  ;-)

2" brim - doesn't hit.

2-1/2" brim - hits.

2" brim - doesn't hit.

2" brim - doesn't hit.

Seems a 2" brim is what you want.  But it will depend on your anchor, bow length, bow cant, and wether having the string tap the brim bothers your (it does me).

My 64" bow hits any brim I have, My 60" bows clear every hat I have.

2" is a good brim length because only my 68" bow hits it hard, the 64" just touches it a nudge.

I shoot my bows vertical like Tom and a large or stiff brim is a problem for me also. I shoot 60" and 62" bows mainly. The Orvis Jefferson Rain hat works very well for me. It has a 2 1/2" brim and is a wool hat that is very soft and flexable, yet springs back to shape well. I highly recommend it.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Tom's hat is the coolest one on Tradgang...  ;)

I just have some velcro sewn on the top of the flap and outside the band of my boonie hat.
It holds it back for shooting and I can drop it down for shade.

I usually wear a boonie, put up one flap and turn the hat slightlly so the string misses the brim.
Relax,

Wouldn't trade my hat. It's an old familiar friend for way many years. BUT, Gatekeeper, you got the nutlock on hats partner!
