It was Mason,a good friend of mine who decided it was going to be with his longbow this year or not at all.

Mason expressed his desire to try and hunt with a longbow a few years back and that he was looking for one to purchase. I happened to have a Jim Johnson Legend longbow that I was not shooting at the time so we made a deal.

He shot it off and on over the years and finally this year he said that it was going to be the longbow or nothing.

So back to the phone call...He says(in a very hushed tone) Craig,I just got my first Traditional kill. I said GREAT,what did you get?
He quietly said it was a 6 or 7 pt that he had just shot it and had heard it crash. Way to go buddy! I asked if he needed any help,he said he thought he would be ok. I told him to call if he needed any help and congratulated him again.

Well, that didn't last to long and I was in my jeep and heading his way whether he needed any help or not. What are friends for,and this was his first "longbow kill".

I met him inside the woods>>>>>>>>>>

Mason was in his tree stand that he and his Dad had put up a few days ago. He decided to go in and hunt it Friday morning. Good choice buddy.

Congratulations to Mason on a beautiful buck and a big atta boy to you Craig for getting him involved in hunting with Trad equipment!!!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

He said he saw the deer in the distance and rattled his horns and got his attention. He was now coming his way and Mason said he lost him for awhile in the thick stuff. Next thing he knew he was behind him rubbing a tree. Mason waited(This is not his first buck.) and when the buck came around Mason was already in the "zone" and at 4 yds he made a perfect shot. Lungs and heart. the Legend is 51#@27" and he was shooting Gander Mountain Whitetail carbons with Zwickey No-Mercy u p front. Way to go Mason!!!!!

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

All these great PA deer here on Gang this year! Might be something to this antler restriction!

Not heavy, but he's got a long enough nose to be  2.5yr old deer, eh???

Regardless, way to go Mason! Give him our best and a "well done" from us all!
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!
