Wool hat smells.
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:57:00 AM »
I have a Pacific Dorfman wool felt hat that I absolutely love to hunt in. The issue is that it has a specific sour type smell if it gets any type of wet and you can smell it for a day or two afterwards. Is there a way I can get that smell out?

cold wash in "woollite" by hand in the sink/lavatory, hang and let dry with no heat.

Wash your own hair...LOL most likely it is the sweat on the band, you do need to wash the hat, and spray it with some peroxide/baking soda and water mix. and let it dry.

Wool does tend to have an odor when wet, I never let it bother me because I still kill deer in wet weather.

This Stetson Open Road is 4-5 decades old & smells like skunk scent, red fox urine, doe pee, & other dead stuff. Just try not to scare your targets.
