Trick or Treat
« on: October 31, 2011, 02:38:00 PM »
This morning I hunted with my longtime friend Paul Dickey who came in from VA on Thursday evening for a few days bowhunting and musky fishing . The only deer that had came into range was on Saturday evening I had a big doe come in and stop in my shooting lane at 12 yards and I promptly shaved the hair off her underside right under her heart . To my disgust she fed just out of range for 1.5 hours , she almost was rubbing it in my face  :)  Paul never had a deer close but almost got a shot at a turkey ( we have a 1 week fall season ) but got busted at the last minute .

Until Halloween :

I climbed into a stand I call persimmon point at about 6:50 this morning . Right after daylight the squirrel in the tree my stand is in was dropping acorn cuttings on me and laughing . After the squirrel had his way with me I starting hearing something over the hill that sounded like a turkey scratching . I thought it was either a turkey or a deer making a scrape , so I blew on a grunt call .If it was a turkey I had nothing to lose . About 15 minutes later I saw a deer feeding up the hill to the top of the ridge where I was . When he got on top he made a scrape and headed my way . It proceeded to walk directly to me tree . At about 10 yards he turned slightly and grabbed a branch in his mouth to make another scrape and turned quartering away . I picked a spot and shot the deer hit the ground on his chin ,jumped up and hustled over the hill . I seen him go feet over head in a pile of pine trees , I guess I got treated in a good way  :)
