Skinny String? What do i need?
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:49:00 AM »
Hi,

i want to try a "skinny string" after reading so much positive responses about the subject here on Tradgang.

As id like to get my strings made locally id need some advice from you:

The bow is a 63#30" Thunderchild;

How many strands should i have?
D 97 or what other material?

I understand the loops and the serving needs to be cushioned with aditional strands, correct?

Or should i skip the skinny complete and use a conventional 18 strand string after all with this bow?

Thanks alot for any info;
Axel

If it's built for FF....check with SBD and get one of their D-10 skinny strings.  Follow their recommendations.

18 strands is great when your car needs to be towed out of the ditch! Hayslope has a good recommendation SBD use D 10 which will creep (stretch) a lot less than D 97. 10 strands should do it for that bow and they will build up the loops to 16 strands.

Depends on the material.  I haven't tried Dynaflight '10 yet, so I'd go with either Dynaflight '97 or Formula 8125; 10-14 strands in the string, 16-18 in the loops.

"I understand the loops and the serving needs to be cushioned with aditional strands, correct?"

Yes

"Or should i skip the skinny complete and use a conventional 18 strand string after all with this bow?"

18 strands is overkill with most any material, but the only way to know what works best for you and your bow is to experiment.
