Thanks everyone. He is truly an awesome deer and I was lucky enough to have a chance at taking him. I wasn't sure if I should get him mounted but since he is such a big 6 and it was with the longbow, my wife has encouraged me to mount him and you know you can't argue with the boss! He's going to the taxidermist tomorrow!
I was hunting just a few miles down the road on some public land. They have been opening a lot of town and county properties around here to help reduce the deer population. You have to shoot to qualify for accuracy, call in and out every time you hunt, indicate where you are hunting on a map with a numbered pin, hunt from a tree stand and shoot a doe before a buck.. It seems like a lot to do, but really becomes routine and opens up thousands of acres to hunt.
