A few months ago I picked up this RH 62" recurve with a weight of around 50# at a garage sale and it is a fantastic shooter. However, there are no markings of any kind.

The back glass is gun metal gray like those bows of the 60's while the belly is a creamy white.

By looking at the photos, can you identify who made it? Do you think it is a production bow of some sort or the work of some obscure bowyer?

Dang, that looks alot like my old bow, Brunehilda, that I sold a couple of years ago. All I know is that someone in Southern Colorado made her. I called her Brunehilda because she was such a brute combination of pretty and ugly at the same time.

Just pick a name for her. I would say your bow is more of a Gertrude. My Brunehilda was curvier, but not as pretty.

I don't think the Cougar ever had any shaping of the handle, back side below the rest.. Or overlaied tips. I am going to say Shakespeare or Root. It's got a Repro Bear plate if that counts

agree with Earl---Cougar didn't have overlays on tips and the back of the handle was different--at least on mine!

I'm thinking late 60's American Archery Shark. The little kink on the belly side of the lower limb is a good clue. A lot of their bows had this (almost a bear dogleg) look to them. The Shark is listed as a 62" bow.

It also resembles some of the Ernie Root/Shakespeares :confused: . CKruse

I put that repo bear side plate on since someone had attempted to make it more center cut.

BTW, I once had an older Pearson Cougar and it did not have that handle shape below the rest.

Also, that back glass is definitely gray...and not green.

I just reworked a Ben Pearson 7050 Cougar and it has the same lines except the concave portion in the lower section of the riser back. i'll bet someone reworked an old cougar, and sanded a wiggle in the lower portion, then put another layer of glass, and new tips on it....there looks like an extra lamination there to me...Kirk
