1st Selfbow Harvest
« on: November 06, 2011, 01:45:00 PM »
I called this buck in with a "can call" right before dark last night.  Didn't think he was ever gonna give me an opportunity to shoot.  He finally presented me with a shot at about 18 yds.  I shot him a little high, but it did its job.  He ran about 80 yds and piled up.  I killed him with a selfbow I made from an osage stave that I believe I got from Pat B a yr or so ago...traded it for a coyote fur.  Started the bow this Sept. and finished the bow Sept 23, 2011. 48lb @ 28 60inches long.  I made a vow when I completed it, that I would shoot anything that gave me an opportunity.  Anything taken with this bow was going to be a trophy no matter what the size was.  I've harvested several deer and a few decent bucks in my life, but this is by far the most satisfying I've ever had.  I made a bow with my own two hands and harvested a deer with it.  To me, it doesn't get any better than that.
