Burned some Pope and Young today w/pics
« on: November 06, 2011, 03:36:00 PM »
I'm doing a couple special arrow builds right now, and wanted something different for my Motor City Machete arrows besides the banana burn I have been doing, so here is the new one I came up with today.  It's my version of the Pope and Young fletch.

This is on a squirrel/rabbit arrow, just so that I can be sure the burn is right before I go onto doing the special ones.

Dimentions are 5 1/4" long, and 1/4" in the front, and 3/4" in the rear.

I do my Olde English or Pope & Young 5" fletch with 5/8" in back and 3/8" on the front.

They fly well and do not whistle too badly.

The Natural turkey feathers I think were made for this style of fletch.  I just did a set with them, and I keep going back down to look at them.  I'm glad I decided to think outside of the box.

It was also our Garrison insignia for the 8th Army, which I was in as part of the Military Police Corp.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve.  Nick decided that arrow is now going to be his new chipmunk killer.  He even crested it to brand it as his.  I got half of the other ones done last night, and because of the time change, I was up at 5 this morning glueing and sticking more feathers.

love the looks of an "english war arrow fletch", but those long pointy tails buzz too loud.

5/16" birch dowel "throwaway" roving arrow, sheered with scissors ...
