Going to Montgomery County.  Anybody know how the mast crop is there and if the rut is on yet?

Deer are chasing now. Lots of acorns too. Should be some big ones there in Montgomery County as everyone there seems to be an urbanite nonhunter.

I have not seen chasing proper yet but we are real close and it is probably going on. Problem is that we are getting too much fair weather (70 degrees, sunny, little or no wind). There was decent mast but honestly all of the deer I hunt mainly browse and I hunt in Monkey County as we affectionately refer to it. Good luck!

A bunch of frustrated deer hunters waiting impatiently for the rut. Which according to some lucky buggers on MWC is in full swing. But not where I've been. Hope you have as much fun as I did in CO in September.

I Just harvested a doe tonite in Montgomery County. I still am not seeing any chasing - and it's 70 degrees out.

Thanks for the good luck wishes guys and congrats on the doe Bill.  I hunt those urban deer, so I guess I rely more on daily feeding migrations than I do on the rut.  I have not seen a good buck in several years of hunting there, but I keep hoping the rut will bring one past me one of these trips.  I sure do hope to thin out the does while I'm there, so I can fill my freezer with that great whitetail meat.  I'll be hunting with some arrows that a fellow tradganger (Benjy) made to honor Chris Surtees, so I'm taking Chris along with me.  I sure wish I'd had the chance to meet and hunt with him.

Come on cold front!

I don't have a good place for butchering where I stay and the butcher I used is no longer in the business.  Any recommendations for a good butcher around Potomac, Rockville, Poolesvile area?

I hunted this am and saw a big older fork who was stumbling in from a night out on the town and a dink spike. Saw a few turkey as well, one of which was doing some partial gobbling. After about 10:00 the temperature went up 25 degrees  "[dntthnk]"  .

Finally started my Maryland hunt. Saw the biggest buck I've ever seen here.  The nice 8 point chased off a forky and bred a doe within 40 yards of my stand, then walked right BEHIND me. Couldn't get a shot as he ran after the forky again. What a hoot!!  Now I just need a couple of tasty does to come by...and they can bring that 8 point with them.

I also saw an even bigger 8 pt, midday, open field, in the middle of a Rockwell subdivision. Go figure.
