A bald eagle flew over me
« on: November 09, 2011, 05:36:00 PM »
I went hunting this morning and a bald eagle flew over me. It circled and looked at me, then flew back the way it came. I took it as a sign from the great spirit. I should have pooped before I left the house.

I think he means they are big birds and it scared him (ie: the stuff out of him) when it flew over.

I can relate as I hunt an area that has quite a few eagles. I had a pair fighting or playing literally at the tree tops one day. As I was in a treestand this put them not far over me head. You do not realize how large they are till they are that close!

They have a pair up at Buffalo Lake in WV. Really cool to see. Wonder if they taste as good as they look???

I've had a redtailed hawk hanging around the last couple of times I've been out and I thought that was cool. I can't imagine having an eagle around!

What's cool for the eagle though, is that he sees you with the equivalent of the best 80X optics in the world! Probably just seeing if you shaved this morning or not.  ;)

The eagles have really come back in my neck of the woods and I see them quite a bit...Just the past few days I've had a Hawk come cruising in and Squirrels scrambling like Crack addics when the police round a corner!  :biglaugh:  It's really neat to see Nature at work...

We see more and more of them locally.  I can tell you our free range chickens and turkeys don't think much nice of them.  Or hawks, for that matter.

I have one that's an alarm clock.  0600 sharp, it starts screeching right above the house.

I'm spoiled up here, if you don't see a bald eagle in a span of 10 minutes, you have your eyes closed...

LV2HUNT, your right I did misunderstood the last part of his post. I have seen eagles as close as 4 to 5 feet away from me on the ground many times and they are a very big bird and quite beautiful.

Bucksbuouy, I apologize for my remark.

I'm lucky to live in SE MN where the eagles have made a great comeback and are very common here.  Where the Mississippi River is the border between MN and WI there is a wide spot called Lake Pepin.  The foot of it stays open (no ice for you southerners) all winter and the eagles are there all the time feeding.  We also have the National eagle center in Wabasha that always has a 2-3 live eagles on display.

One of the coolest things I have seen is while on top of a bluff overlooking the river to watch an eagle soar from above it.  It's a neat sight to see it from the top side while soaring.

The last part was intended to be a joke. I guess a little toilet humor is not as appreciated by some as others. What I meant was I had to go to the bathroom and the hunt miserable because of this. The eagle looked at me funny like he recognized my discomfort. It made me laugh.

I got it bucksbuouy    ;)   A few years ago I was on the edge of a big marsh just inside the treeline sitting on a deadfall when a couple of mature Eagles flew over screeching.
About 5 minutes later a big old lone doe stepped out about 20 yards to my left and looked away, giving me my easiest shot ever.
Shot right under her...lol
