Need Your Excuses
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:13:00 AM »
This was inspired by Magnus . I thought I would make a book/pamplet from all the excuses I can come up with for missing a deer/animal. I don't know if it will be publishable, but I'm going to try. So, this is what I'm asking. Can everyone come up with as many excuses as they can and type them here. I will be using you screen name if you don't mind. I would also like your input.
Let The Lord guide you ways.

There's only one excuse that I can think of, Operator Error.

There was a limb, stick, twig, leaf, etc. that I didn't see before I shot. That deflected the arrow.

"That animal is way too big... I am used to hitting smaller targets."

This is actually what a friend of mine said after missing his first 6x6 bull.

Deer ducked it.

Deer jumped it; or jumped the string, or jumped in some way.

Deer backed away from it.

Deer outran it.

Deer skipped momentarily into a parallel dimension.

Deer used a Jedi mind trick on me.

Deer made effective use of cover.

Deer was evil manitou shape shifting spirit.

Squirrel climbed up my pant leg and distracted me.

Hit my arm guard (I learned that one from Bowhunting October Whitetails video).

Actually that morning the sun came up in the west and I was not prepared for the light in my eyes as my stand is set up for an east rising sun.

"Am I supposed to keep an eye open when I shoot"?

Or,

The Deer closed its eyes, so I missed.

In Kansas,
 Wind too strong...
 Wind not strong enough...
 wind out of wrong direction...
 wind shifted....

We can always blame it on the wind.
Bowhunting is a passion, not an obsession. Its just hard for my wife to tell the difference sometimes.
