I am looking onto picking up a few trad books. The first is Fred Bear's Feild notes. I have not heard a bad thing about this book. I have already made a thread to get your opinions (thanks again).

The second book is "Instinctive Shooting" by G. Fred Asbell. I know this man is a trad Idol! But whats your opinions on this book?

You won't go wrong with any of the books Mr Asbell has written. I have used this book and the next 2 to help over the years even though I shoot a longbow' and have picked up so many good pointers from him. Go for it.

I have the last 2 of Mr Asbel and so far they helped me quite a bit! I don't know about Field Notes, but like you, I just herd good things about it... It's on my list!

Field Notes is great,  I like Mr Asbel on several levels, his stalking book is very good, his shooting style does not work for me,  You'll find all kinds of free advise on that part of the equation.

I think that the books by Jim Hamm and Fred Anderson are worth a read.

Also "Trailing a Bear" by Bob Munger is fantastic reading about Fred and Bob's friendship and hunting experiences.

I read Advanced Instinctive Shooting (GFA) and it made a huge difference in my shooting, dramatic and immediate. I am not very good at the more open stance he recommends, but his "drawing from the knee" worked great from the very first.

Get that one and "Stalking and Still Hunting", they are both very informative. One of them has a section on making wood arrows that is very good.

Paddy Mac, "A Man Made of Elk" is a very good read. One of the best, if not THE best hunting books I've ever read.
