STATIC TIP STALKER RECURVES? additional info pg. 4
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:54:00 PM »
Hey Gang,
South is in the process of developing new limbs for his new "hybrid/classic" handles.  These recurve limbs will be the new interchangeable limbs.  This will allow you to shoot both recurve and longbow limbs on the same riser.

South has decided to experiment by building a few static recurve tips.  It is still very early in development.  What do you guys think about static tips?  Pros? Cons? Suggestions?

I'll be sure to keep you guys updated.

Aloha!
Ryan

Great idea! Dryad makes a static tip bow that's very popular!

Check out some posts about Sovereign Ballistiks. Smooth draw, fast at lower weights, no hand shock. I often wonder why more bowyers don't build static limbs. BTW...his machines and patterns are up for sale. South could probably make a go of it.

I good static tip is hard to beat IMO.  I've had a couple and have been much impressed with them.  For my dollar, I prefer them over non-static.

I will say this though, I poorly designed/inefficient static tip is no better than any other limb.  Being a "static tip" is kind of trendy but without doing some pretty good research and development it would be easy to turn out another "vanilla" limb.

Please understand, in no way am I implying that South would do that.  Just stating an obvious fact that consumers will rush to a great design and shy from one that's ho-hum.

I think it's a great idea and look forward to seeing (and shooting) anything coming out of the Stalker shop.

I have been looking at South's bow for a while now....I have a RER with Static tip limbs and really like it. Maybe those static tips will push me over the edge to get one....lol!

Thanks for all the info gang.

hockey7,
I'll try to do a search.

Jedimaster,
I totally agree with what you're saying.  I'm hoping to get additional information from the gang to help with the R&D process.

ron w,
I'll be sure to post some pics in the near future.     ;)

Aloha!

The only thing I would like improved on South's recurve is to make the tips more stiff(so it's not so easy to twist the limbs). If the static tipped curve is timed correctly and more stiff at the limb tip w/out sacrificing performance, than why not!
The Fazio(sp) static is by far the best static I've shot but there are some I have yet to try.

I just got my Raven with static tips from Jack Kempf. It smokes a arrow, dead in the hand and whisper quiet. Have his KWYK STYK also. Jack has it going on with his static tips. Unbelievable BOWS I love them.

Good luck, Randy

Guru shoots a Kemp bow with static limbs. Cannot deny how well he shoots it. Can't imagine him shooting anything but what he considers to be the best.

I love the Tracker longbow  I got from South and just figured out the correct arrow to use. The longbow shoots "lights out". Very quick, quiet and stable. If he can come up with a static limb that's as good as the longbow limb he'll be making lots of them.

I have had three Rivers Edge bows with the static tips. I really liked them. With a good limb design I don't think you can go wrong.

Is there room on the left coast for another static limb bow?  :bigsmyl:  I like my Stalkers as is, great wood combinations, excellent finish, and good performance. South has a nice line-up of choices available now also. It may pay off better to continue to tweak what South has now then to go into another niche of trad archery.

Hey Mike,
What type of tweak would you recommend to his current recurve limb design?  Looking for suggestions, keep in mind that the new riser is a little slimmer.

Mahalo and Aloha!

I have one of Sixby's static-tipped Talons. It is quiet and really smokes an arrow. For some reason, though, it scares the crap outta me to brace it    :scared:   ... but doesn't stop me!   :bigsmyl:   I should probably mention, too, that it is a work of art!
