very light runs on a flat mill file.  Just about the weight of the broadhead only, then some leather.

I am a believer in the hollow grind technique using a bench grinder.  Then finish with a file and crockstik.  It takes a light touch and you will probably ruin a head or two learning what to do but it works for me.  There are a couple threads about it and I think an article in TBM.

And what do you REALLY think, El gran j?  Congratulations, you have an opinion!

Wildgame - I put up a sharpening thread a while back that has been pulled up a few times, I think SteveO may have pulled it up most recently.  Lots of ways to get Snuffers (and any other carbon steel heads) plenty sharp.  You can do them the same way as Woodsman heads too, so any info you find on Woodsmans would apply.  Snuffers been getting the job done for over 40 years....

And we know what opinions are like. Been sharpening mine with file for a long time. Its almost like second nature to me, I can honestly say if I do my part, snuffers come thru for me.

I use a 16" file, then hit the edge with a butchers steel then strop with cardbord.

A few months back I was having trouble getting some snuffers to where I think they are sharp enough to hunt with, which is hair shaving sharp. Some fine people gave me some tips and I'll share with you here.

1. With a black magic marker, mark each cutting edge.

2. Place a bastard file on your bench and using light stokes drag the head backwards on the file until all the black ink you marked in the first step is totaly gone. By this time you shpuld have raised a good burr on the edge. Flip the head and repete until you have all 3 sides done in this way.

3. When you have all the black ink gone from all sides of the head, switch to some Arkansas stones. Make sure to use plenty of oil on the stones. I started with 30 strokes per each side of the heads and after the first 30 strokes, repete the process reducing the strokes to 20, than 10, etc, etc. Do not use heavy pressure!

4. The next step I took was to put some Mothers metal polish on a piece of cardboard and lightly strop each side of the head with simmilar steps of step #3.

5. Last step is to strop each side of the head on plain cardboard. The edges should look shiney/polished and will be able to shave hair easily.

I think the total time per head was somewhere close to an hour. But the results of how sharp they came out was worth it to me.I hope this helps you get your Snuffers sharp.

..I've used snuffers a bunch in the past ..."what a hole" they put out. I used a mill bastard file. They'll cut through any bad opinion.

Snuffers are some of the easiest BH's to sharpen. Try the snuffer tamer. Even "El gran put your foot in mouth J" could use it. It also fits right in your pack.

I pretty much do the same as recurve50lbs for snuffers and woodsmen heads! I've found these heads to be the easiest to sharpen to hair popping sharp with very little effort at home or in the feild!  I carry a small stone and piece of leather in my fanny pack for field work when needed!  And the blood trails are awesome!!!!

Most worthwhile things in life require some effort.  The Snuffer delivers big time - I've never see the effort working on them that did not end in a fast, but messy ending.  Wash them off - hit them with a file - next.

Snuffers are one of the easiest heads to field sharpen... as are all of the 3 blade heads.
Once worked over in the shop they can be brought back to razor sharp in the field with a file, diamond hone, stone or crock stick.

If you can't get it done with those then your technique is "Crap", not the broadhead.
