Help me pick a new bow????
« on: November 16, 2011, 09:29:00 AM »
All,

I have been trying to decide on a new recurve.  I am trying to find a short-ish bow for use in blinds and treestands.  I am looking for something in the 50-55 lbs range that can handle my draw of 29.5 inches.  It seems like everytime I get it narrowed down I find another candidate.  Basically, I have been trying to figure this out for three weeks and am no closer today than I was when I started.  I hesitate to post this thread because I am pretty sure you guys are just going to make the choice more difficult

What do you consider "shortish"? Longbow or recurve?

A recurve 58" or less would be ideal.  I prefer a one piece but that might not be a reality

Caleb, take a look on-line for Wapiti Custom Bows by J.K. Chastin, he makes a great bow in my opinion and has a 20% off sale right now.  Has many bows in stock which are listed on his website or build you one to your specs.

Good luck!

Dan Toelke at Montana Bows, he is a sponsor, and makes a 58" one piece that will draw out to 30".  You will be hard pressed to find a better bowyer to deal with.

Have to agree with Tutanka Dan Toelke is great. I shoot his 60" whip, no better bow out there and he is great to deal with.

shrew, big jim thunderchild, wow I would not want to be you unless I had about ten g's to drop on all the great bows people have listed.  I just picked up an absolute work of art from roman hershberger, Hill Country bows, in millersburg ohio. It is a 58" bow and shoots like a 66" I would not hesitate to recommend him if you want something that long.  I got a longbow but I think he makes some shorter recurves that are just as beautiful and just as sweet to shoot.  Good Luck

I have a new bow that would work. It has a 12 inch riser, 56 in bow with Talon 11 static limbs mounted on the back of the riser. It will handle your draw length easily.

God bless and good luck in your search. Steve

If I was going to order a custom 1 piece short recurve I would  go with the Black Widow PSR for a short takedown I would go with the Black Widow PSA. Now I don't own either of these bows but I can attest that they shoot as good or better than the rest of them, and the people at Black Widow are as friendly to deal with as you can ask for. The bow I use out of a blind is either my 62" Tomahawk Diamond series SS longbow or my Bear Kodiak Magnum.
