Osage Tiger II (osage recurve)
« on: January 14, 2007, 01:01:00 PM »
This is a bow that was actually built in the Winter/Spring of ’06. I just never got around to posting pics of it until now. It is a one piece osage orange,reflex-deflex working recurve, 54”ntn – 42# @ 24” (that’s a long description!).

It is my daughter, Megan’s bow. She has helped build her last 4 bows. On this one she did most all of the rough work and scraping/sanding. We both did the steaming, bending, and tiller of it.  But the staining I did myself because I’ve been experimenting with what I call “tiger stripe” or others refer to it as “fiddle-back” staining.

There are some great threads on this website for this technique. We named the bow “Osage Tiger II” because it is my second attempt at this method of staining.

Megan loves the bow and it shoots really sweet. She shot it all Summer and did well at the “competitive” shoots with it. But due to a busy school year & athletics she was not able to hunt with it this Fall. Maybe she can chase turkeys with it this Spring.

Our deer season is over now and we all are thinking about our next season, we have a lot of ideas being kicked around. I know many of you are doing the same so I thought I might post these pics to throw a spark and get a fire started for the,                  ’07 BOW BUILDING SEASON !!!!

Is that a jute wrapped grip?

The bow is beautiful.

That is one awesome bow! Great job to Dad and Daughter. Keep up the great work. I love it when my kids get involved with projects. They seem to appreciate the finished product more if they have a hand in it.  :clapper:

Lost Arra,,,yes the handle is wrapped with jute. It makes a great handle wrap, after it is wrapped I like to water down some Tite-Bond II and rub it into the jute. This will water proof it and gives it sort of a "no-slip" grip kind of texture.

Megan and I both thank you all for your compliments. Also for this site and the many things that may have taken us years longer to learn. I have been making my own bows since the mid-80's but the things I've learned here over the last 5yrs is amazing!

Yeah I like the stain too. One of the how toos on this site shows how to do what they call the fiddleback stain job. Pretty.
She said " did you see that?" He said "Of course!!!" She said " Why did you step in it then?"
