My dad passed away a week before Delaware bow season came in and its made for some tough sunrises and sunsets sittin in the tree this season missin the old man. However I cant help but feel he's been riding along with me this fall as its turned into one of my best ever.

This morning I had a doe come by inside easy bow range and drew my Titan recurve and although the shot felt good it went right under her....she took a couple jumps and was in the thick stuff. I looked back from where she came and a fine buck was trailing her through the woods. He had lost her and was moving pretty good trying to locate her. He was at 25 yards, my point on with my Titan and I grunted long and loud to stop him and as I was getting "on target" he went wide eye when he spotted me and I dumped the string. The arrow went way left and high from where I was looking. The buck bucked and took off and was out of sight pretty quick. I thought that I heard a labored breath but with the hit where it was I thought "nahhhhh"

I was sick, I text my buddy Bruce who has a blood tracking dog and put him on alert that I was gonna need him. I sat there frettin and askin Pop to help me out on this one. I hit the deer right at 7am and about 7:45 when a wonderful sunrise was lighting up the understory I was turning in the tree I looked out there and saw some white......"no way" I thought and as soon as I got the bino's up and on him I bout fell out of the tree.....I was stunned!! I shot the buck with a KME sharp Magnus buzzcut and it cut that big artery the runs under the spine clean in half!!! He hadnt gone 75 yards!! My old man always said he'd rather be lucky than good and I'll take some of that today thank you very much LOL

I havent had this good of a season in a long time and its been hard not having my number 1 hunting buddy to tell my storys too but I know his grin is almost as big as mine!

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Sorry for your loss.

Well Done on that fine buck. I love the character in his rack. Those long tines are cool.

Yohon,

We've only met briefly, but when you say you had a good season, after your leg set back, it's gospel!

I hope this experience can help solidify that feeling that your Dad, with whom you've shared so much apparently, is there with you in so many ways from here forward.

As the holidays loom on the horizon, you will need to draw on that new reality.

Godspeed and Keep the Son in your eyes and know your Father is with ours!

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad.  I'm sure you spent a lot of time sitting in a stand thinking of all the good times.

That's a fine deer you got..........your Dad was with you from start to finish.
