Hawaii hunting???

Yesterday my wife said she wants us to go to Hawaii next year (November ish). I said that would be wonderful as long as I get to bring my bow too, and she agreed!!! So now I need info. I would be fine with just goats or hogs. Anyone have experiance hunting there?

when I went I tried everything to hunt hogs but it just didn't pan out,,, there are a couple guys on the widow forums who are from hawaii that hunt goats and hogs but it was tough just staying in touch with them to get everything scheduled, you may have better luck though if you can register over there..

if you fly fish they have the biggest bonefish in the world there,, right outside pearl harbor on the flats just don't accidently step in one of the japanese bomb craters where the turtles hide.

I had a fun afternoon on an Oahu .  HUGE grass, they call it elephant Grass.  Trying to plan a hunting diversion on Maui for April.

Private or public? If private how much are you willing to spend? Which island are you traveling to? Might be tough to find public places to bowhunt during the winter months.  We have our bird season from November through the end of January.

Normally I would say Kauai cause of the public lands availability but they did some gunning this year and I'm not fully sure how that depleted the targets.  A buddy will be over there during Christmas and will give me the update.

A coupe of the biggest issues with HI is sorting out ownership, areas that are open, and most public lands are weekends only.

Actually, there is probably no better source of Hawaiian hunting knowledge (on the forums anyway) than Steve H. I was on Maui and Molokai this year. Steve's stories, how-tos, and personal advice were a real benefit to me. I had a great time, and plans are under way for a return!

I've heard they have feral chickens too that are very sporting with the bow. That is, for when you're not chasing hogs and goats.

Most of the feral hens (mostly on Kauai) stick to the edge of cultivated area and roads.  Never see them in the killing fields.

What island are you going to the? Send lonala a pm he lives on the big island. He kills pigs and goats all the time.

Are you referring to the Francolin grouse (several sub-species) that populate the islands? Those things were thick almost everywhere we went. They woke us up every single morning on Molokai...a nicer alarm clock I've never known.

Just got back from the "Big Island".  We had a great time hunting sheep with C and S outfitters.  Great hunt at a very reasonable price. Give Chris a call you won't be diappointed.

Hawaii is at the top of the list of destinations that I really want to hunt and that I can also reasonably afford. I would be fine with hiring a guide for a day or two, but is it feasible to combine this with some DIY?
