Oh what a beautiful morning!
« on: November 26, 2011, 07:28:00 AM »
We'll, maybe it was a little before morning.

Yesterday, I checked my trail camera for the first time in about 6 weeks. The camera is set up on my home property of 42 acres and it is on the edge of my 3D course (every year at least one of my buck targets gets his but wooped).

Ok, first of all, I have only seen 2 deer on this property in the last 8 years. They were both does and one was at noon and the other in the dark so I had no big expectations about seeing much on the camera.
Much to my surprise, there was pictures of 4 bucks and several does.
All pics were in the last 2 weeks and the big un came in yesterday morning at 4:30.

Maybe they will come back in the light some time.
One can only hope.

The big one sure is a looker. Cameras are fun just to see what might show up. Way cool.

The big problem here, well other than the fact that they only come in the dark, is that there completely unpredictable and there is no access to neighboring properties.
My area is mostly very small hobby farms and small 3-5 acre rural lots. On top of that, nobody trusts anybody. So, I just wait and maybe it happens.
It is a tough sit though. I have 20 pictures in 6 weeks and only 2 are during legal hours (1 doe and 1 small fork).
Something to dream about.

Maybe you can improve your area with some kind of cover and coltivation, and sorry for sure your practical range doesn't help too much.Good luck,Jim

That last buck is a bruiser...

I have the same problem on a few properties around me.  All the deer movement is nocturnal and it takes alot of patience to sit there all day knowing almost for certain you're not going to see anything during the day...but ya never know.

I've hunted a lot of areas like that. It really makes me appreciate every deer I see.

Good looking pictures.

I spoke to the neighbor this morning. He has no woods, but a treeline.

I asked if he hunted and he said no. So then I mentioned a decent deer, didn't want to let the cat out of the bag  :)

He told me that he had been feeding an 8 pointer for 4 or 5 years and sees him in the day light a couple of times a week.

I now have permission to hunt him on the neighbors property. There are no big trees, so I will look to the Bush-N-A-Bag to conceal my intentions.

Good luck Jim, great buck. Keep the faith, those cameras only show a 40' x 15' area.
